2020 National Graduate Program
Work in one of Australia's largest government departments. Design, develop, deliver, coordinate and monitor a range of government services.
When you join our department you'll help deliver more than $173 billion in payments. We offer a range of health, social and welfare payments and services through:
We touch the lives of almost every Australian. Our department provides essential payments and services to help people meet life's challenges. We help when people have lost a job, a loved one or when they're separating from a partner.
The services we deliver make a difference to the lives of the people we serve.
Our graduate program gives you lots of opportunities to use the skills and knowledge you gained at university.
The program has 2 unique experiences. All graduates take part in our Outbound experience. You'll spend 3 days working in a local service centre or Smart Centre. You'll see how the work we do makes a positive difference to the lives of Australians. You can also apply for the Indigenous and Multicultural Placement. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to spend up to 3 months working in an indigenous or multicultural community.
Our 10 month program offers two pathways – Generalist and Professional.
Our Generalist pathway accepts applicants with degrees from all disciplines and gives you broad exposure to the operations of the department. You'll experience 2 placements, each lasting 5 months. This allows you to participate in diverse projects and learn how different areas operate.
The Professional pathway provides a single placement, allowing you to specialise and develop your skills in a particular area. This year, we are recruiting 6 disciplines within the Professional pathway:
