Department of Home Affairs 2019/20 Legal Summer Clerk Program

The Department of Home Affairs is offering a number of paid summer clerkships, to be completed between late November 2019 and mid-February 2020 as part of its annual Legal Summer Clerk Program.

As one of the largest in-house government legal practices you will get the opportunity to:

• experience working in a high profile government agency
• develop core legal skills
• work across a breadth of legal practices
• be at the forefront of cutting edge administrative law challenges and reform
• work on cases which will end up in future law textbooks!

We are committed to our team, providing them with training, development and other opportunities. This includes an orientation/induction program and mentoring opportunities as part of the Summer Clerk Program.

We are looking for individuals who:

• are team players
• have a good work ethic
• have a client service focus
• have excellent communications skills
• have the ability to work in an agile environment.

Candidates must also be:

• available for the duration of the Summer Clerk Program (late November 2019 to mid-February 2020);
• an Australian citizen (APS requirement);
• undertaking a law degree (in your final or penultimate year of studies in 2020); and
• able to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance and a Security Clearance.

• outlines one legal case that sparked your interest in law and why.
