Working Hours at Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development & Communications

I am very happy with the amount of hours I work. Additionally, the Department offers flexible working arrangements, so long as you complete the required amount of hours.

We have flex time, which makes it easy to work around family and out-of-work commitments.

I work 37.5 hours a week. I normally come in between 8:30 and 9, and leave at about 5. If I work additional hours, I get to take the time off later. My Department is very flexible about the hours I choose to work.

The standard is a 7.5 hour day. The flexibility of start and finish times depend on the area you are in and operational needs.

There is flexibility, from team to team, when it comes to the hours you are expected to work. Some teams work longer hours than others, but there is no expectation to do longer hours than are necessary to complete tasks.

Flexibility is generally very high, although it can depend on supervisors and work areas. The Department has flex time, where excess hours worked can be taken later as leave.

Company is flexible, however sometimes you have to stay due longer due to team projects.

The public service allows you to negotiate your own start and finish times. The only requirement is that you must work a 7.5 hour day, which amounts to a 37.5 hour week (when working full time). Your working times can be negotiated with your supervisors, and supervisors are understanding when you may need to have appointments during work areas. On average, staff within my immediate team begin work anywhere between 7am-9:30 am, and finish between 3:30pm and 6pm. At times, staff may need to work additional hours. However, depending on your position within the company, you are compensated for those hours. For example, as an APS1-6 (entry to mid-level employee), you accrue flex hours, and you can then use those hours to take time off work (through consultation with your supervisor).

9-5. If I go over the 7.5 hour day I accrue flex which I can take as leave at another time.

I generally work a normal 7.5 hour day and my area is very flexible to working hours.

I am required to work 7.5 hours per day which can be taken at any time between 7am and 7pm (by negotiation with my supervisor). Any additional time required in the office gets banked as 'flex time' which accumulates and can be used like time in lieu.
