Application Process & Interviews at DHL

The initial stage of the recruitment process was a phone interview with a member of the recruitment team. This was followed by a first interview with the Head of Acquisitions and a Business Partner. I was then asked to complete a psychometric assessment. Once completed I was sent a PowerPoint presentation that I was to present at my second interview. The second interview was with the Director of Human Resources and the Head of Acquisition. Finally I completed a pre-employment medical as the final stage of the process.

I was initially invited to a one on one interview with the talent and acquisition manager. I was then invited to a panel interview with the HR director, HR business partner and talent & acquisition manager. The panel interview included a quick presentation.

The interview process involved 3 stages. First was the initial phone conversation where a relationship was established as well as both parties backgrounds and expectations. Second was a face-to-face interview where further questions and program outlines were established. Third and last consisted of a presentation between yourself as well as a member of the Senior Management Team. From there a decision was made regarding whether you were successful or not.

For myself, the interview process to obtain my role at DHL was intense. Initially, after the graduate open day, I had an interview with 2 members of HR. Following that process, I was to undertake an online test. Finally I was asked to present an 8 minute presentation to a 2 members of HR and also an Vice President of the company, followed by an interview with the same panel.

Firstly I submitted my online application, followed by a brief phone interview, Face to face interview with HR manager, Face to face interview with finance team senior, Face to face interview with 2 finance managers and also completed an online personality test.

The questions were based on past experiences and using examples of how you have demonstrated teamwork, leadership, safety and working under pressure.

The questions were very diverse, they revolved around my previous work experience, time management skills, questions that got to know my personality and finally my career aspirations. In addition there were some questions that were communicated through scenarios.

The questions centered how you worked and reacted in real life situations. I was asked when I had to show leadership in my previous workplace and how that was received by my colleagues. Also questions about how I react to pressure and examples where I've been in this type of situation.

Previous working experiences, previous IT Project experiences, what I do outside of work hours and what am I passionate about.

What unit did you enjoy studying whilst in university? How would you describe yourself? This is a face pace working environment, how do you respond to working under pressure?

Experience based/ scenario based questions. In a previous role when have you had to deal with conflict...?

From what I can remember, the types of questions I was asked in my interviews were about me as a person. My success in my studies and how I coped with them. Examples of myself in high pressure situations. Current and previous work experience.

What made you choose to apply for the DHL graduate program? Why do you want to work in logistics? Where do you see yourself in 5 years..?

Questions relating to previous experience, my degree and where I wanted to end up in the future. Previous work experience, why are you interested in this field, what did you enjoy at university and why.

Be yourself and genuine, while showing how you are a great cultural fit with the company. Provide relevant examples to back up your answers.

Give the interviewer a positive reason to remember your name! Make your application stand out from the others to show why you are the right choice for the role.

Knowing as much as you can about Supply Chain and how your role will fit in with Supply Chain and the company

Don't be of the impression that there is a certain mold you need to fit. Know your strengths and drive them through but also know your weaknesses and have actions in place to build upon them. Do your research. Understand the company you'll be working for so know how you'll best be able to contribute but also so you can decide if it's the right company for you.

Advice that I would recommend would be to do sufficient research about the company to come completely know this is the company for you. Also, there will be many people you will be competing against, learn to stand out and sell yourself the best while still keeping a modest and honest portrayal of your character.

Know the logistics and supply chain space. The basics anyway. Relax and do not stress. Have plenty of real life experiences that can be applied to your future role with DHL.

Make sure you want to work for the company you are applying for and are not just applying for anything. Research about the role, what are the job requirements, and do your research about the company.

Be bold and confident in yourself and your achievements. Have a good night sleep before the interview
