Diversity is getting better now with their new starters (especially graduate intake) however the diversity in existing teams throughout the business is still quite lacking in terms of gender and ethnic minorities

There is room for improvement. As an engineering company, we are still working towards gender balance in the workforce. The organisation invests a lot into developing its people so that they can reach their potential.

This is an area in which Downer has made significant improvement in, even in the short time that I have been with them. It is obvious that Downer is genuine about improving their approach to a holistic view of diversity.

Strong drive for diversity outcomes and there have been no instances of prejudice observed so far. Flexible work arrangements can be made on a case by case basis with a simple chat with your manager.

What does your company do to attract applicants from less privileged backgrounds?
Downer actively provides a level playing field for applicants regardless of background and takes each applicant on their individual merits and potential.

From what I know, the company advertises to applicants on general job seeking websites, which is neither encouraging or discouraging applicants from less privileged backgrounds. They do have as strong support programme with indigenous Australians, and would surely inspire that group towards jobs in the company
