I examine new applications related to inventions and innovations around the field of medical devices.

Day-to-day responsibilities mostly include working on cases, which means reading the patent application, searching for similar patents and composing reports for the patent applicant.

I work with understanding challenging chemical/legal concepts. My day-to-day responsibilities include meeting production targets and assisting others with difficult concepts.

I am training to work as a Patent Examiner which means that I examine submitted patents to check if they are new and inventive. My day-to-day responsibilities include managing my case load, communicating with my work place coach (as I am still in training) and attending training run by the training centre.

Examining patents and working out if they're legally compliant.

My day to day work involves the use of technical skills and administrative skills. This includes using my scientific knowledge and operating IP Australia's significant amount of computer software programmes to perform my examination work. An integral part of my daily work is keeping up to date with patent law and practice and ensuring it is correctly applied in my examination work.

My primary day-to-day responsibilities revolve around the examination of pharmaceutical patents coming in through the AU national phase or PCT international phase. This includes searching inventions (in patent and non-patent literature) and examining applications using patent law set out in either the Australian Patents Act or PCT and also writing examination reports to applicants/attorneys.

My role is examining patents and deciding if they are novel and inventive. I read through the patent specifications and where appropriate search to see if anything similar exists in the world. I then write up a report on my decision and reasoning, and subsequently reply to feedback from the Patent Attorneys on my report(s) as required to finally grant the patent.
