Palantir Technologies Internship - Forward Deployed Software Engineer

We're looking for outstanding engineers to apply to become Forward Deployed Software Engineers (FDSEs). The internship is generally 12 weeks long and will take place in our London office with travel and housing included. FDSEs will work on one or more existing Palantir deployments in the public or private sector and learn the software inside and out. This may lead into a graduate opportunity in Canberra which includes a 12-month rotation in one of our global offices, usually New York or London.

The Role

Forward Deployed Software Engineers (FDSEs) understand our customers' greatest pain points and design end-to-end solutions and deploy cutting-edge technologies to address them. They solicit constant feedback on their work from both customers and colleagues, improving our products over time with rapid iteration cycles.

Projects often start with a nebulous question without a clear answer. FDSEs are thought leaders and first movers in developing a solution, from high-level system design and prototyping to application development and data integration.

FDSEs work with customers around the world, where they gain unique insight into the world's most important industries and institutions. We help our customers fight violent crime, detect insider trading, improve disaster relief, uncover healthcare fraud, and more. Each mission presents different challenges, from the regulatory environment to the nature of the data to the user population. FDSEs work to accommodate all aspects of an environment to drive real outcomes for our customers.

Technologies We Use

Core Palantir products provide the foundation for our deployments, and custom applications are built on top of these platforms.

Other technologies include:

• Postgres, Cassandra, Hadoop, and Spark for distributed data storage and parallel computing
• Java and Groovy for our back-end applications and data integration tools
• Typescript, AngularJS, jQuery, Backbone, Underscore, Leaflet, and d3 for our web technologies
• Python for data processing and analysis
• Palantir cloud infrastructure based on AWS EC2 and S3

What We Value

• Strong engineering background, preferred in fields such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics.
• Familiarity with data structures, storage systems, cloud infrastructure, front-end frameworks, and other technical tools.
• Understanding of how technical decisions impact the user of what you're building.
• Proficiency with programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, or similar languages.
• Ability to work effectively in teams of technical and non-technical individuals.
• Skill and comfort working in a rapidly changing environment with dynamic objectives and iteration with users.
• Demonstrated ability to continuously learn, work independently, and make decisions with minimal supervision.

The internship is for at least 12 weeks in London, we cover travel, accommodation, laundry costs and even have breakfast, lunch and dinner in the office.
