Management at Santos

7.7
7.7 rating for Management, based on 41 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
Some managers are great and exemplify great managers and mentors - highly supportive, unbiased and will provide honest feedback and recognition where due. Some managers however have some qualities to be desired. Usually managers higher up (above immediate line manager or one above) are quite approachable and down to earth.

My manager is excellent. Obviously there is a range and have heard other people worse experiences than I have had. Managers tend not to be technical mentors. Mentorship is generally good but handled more by senior technical staff. Although there is a mentorship scheme in place, it is ultimately up to the individual how much they get out of it.

It varies widely between different managers. In general managers are approachable, but the effort must be made by an employee to seek them out and learn this.

Direct managers are very good at communicating with staff. Due to the uncertainty at the moment, higher managers are not as visible.

I have a very good working relationship with my team leader regarding performance feedback. I do not have any ongoing communication with higher management however. Internal communication is not always as good as I feel it could be.

These are all great, sometimes it feels like we do performance reviews just to do them rather than for any real benefit

Open plan office space in city creates plenty of informal opportunities to interact with managers. Formal buddy system for graduates is satisfactory. Recent use of Yammer allows senior management to reflect, identify, communicate and praise staff.

Managers are very accessible. Team leaders hold regular group and one-on-one meetings. Managers organise monthly meetings to catch up with departments.

Direct management is terrific, upper management is more distant however can be interacted with if required. Great feedback and development discussions from direct management

Depends very much on the manager. My personal manager is a great mentor.

Managers are generally very accessible and often technical as well. Have 1-on-1s with team leader regarding performance and issues/concerns. Company has regular updates for all staff and company news is on the intranet.

My own manager is excellent, and makes a very good mentor who is always willing to answer my questions. I also enjoy that the CEO takes time to write his blog which is posted on the main site. Middle management however has not been very accessible.
