Training & Personal Development at Santos

Prior to the collapse of the oil price, training was great (industry related courses). Limited training now.

A large number of informal 'lunch and learn' sessions are run for general information, and there are also many opportunities for formal training courses.

Currently learning majority of skills on the job as training would be of little benefit for usual tasks Personal development training is pushed heavily and is of high quality Always opportunity to ask managers to undertake training if there is something that you want to do coming up

Graduate program allows for job rotations to move around and get experience in other roles. Frequent internal training courses which you can attend based on your role/discipline. Training budget is fairly generous.

There are numerous training programmes available for graduates but not all are applicable. There do not appear to be many courses that are suitable for specialist roles.

There are a number of training options available to employees. If it is in your development plan then you are often approved to attend. I've learnt how to use a lot of modelling programs.

There seems to be a good number of training programmes in place, however the ability to actually attend them is limited. Employees are no longer able to book courses in other offices as was done previously. The courses that I have attended have been very helpful, and I have learned valuable skills in my field.

Opportunity to access external training as well as internal has been good. Skill include seismic, play based exploration and exploration economics.

The first week of the graduate program is all training to familiarise graduates with the company and the industry which was helpful. There are also a number of day courses offered as part of the graduate program.

Rotations and courses. Example, petro physics, geomechanics, development/exploration/appraisal, etc.

Heavily weighted on the job experience with mentorship. Course based training is encouraged in some teams and not in others. Generally good course work exposure to reputable international courses, but no international travel to courses outside of the country which tends to be common with bigger companies in the industry.

Training is definitely provided, however a lot is on company based processes and is not transferrable to other companies.

Personal development courses useful Technical training courses for area specific tasks are targeted and useful for career development

External training courses are often available, as well as internal courses provided by senior staff. Most useful training is on the job, with the help of a mentor.

Generally a lot of formal training opportunities are provided early on. On the job training is dependent on individual teams and often it's up to you what you get out of it. There are lots of people willing to help, but in many cases you will have to take the initiative to seek them out.

Structured problem solving and decision making to complement defect elimination and risk assessments. Also numerous technical knowledge & skills related to discipline specific courses.

Internal training is generally good. External training would allow for character and relationship building with other people in the industry, and unfortunately is not an option

Very comprehensive training is available but it is self-managed so will require some consultation to ensure maximum benefit.
