Pros and cons of working at Shell Australia

Pros

  • Focus on development of people, short and long term opportunities, remuneration, generally stimulating and challenging work

  • The opportunity to travel and gain experience at different projects in varying stages.

  • Travel. Training. Chance to move through disciplines to get an overall view of different areas.

  • World class training opportunities and large training budget. Well-structured graduate development program with competence framework to ensure development is encouraged and supported. International travel and work exposure. Outstanding remuneration package.

  • Travel: I am on an expatriate assignment in New Zealand already, only six months into my graduate program. Training, I have access to some of the best training in the world with Shell. Amazing pay. Challenging work.

Cons

    • A high proportion of people involved in making tough decisions, execution of plans usually takes more time.

    • Very large bureaucratic structure increases red tape and slows speed of progress.

    • Large multinational - expect inefficiencies in slow administrative processes

    • Shell is a very reporting/business process fulfilling driven company - feels like decisions are made slowly, often re-worked and unnecessary processes are not eliminated

    • having to go through a number of 'levels' and people to approve things
