Please describe the interview process and assessments.
For the graduate program we had an online coding challenge and a recorded video answers session.
Graduate, Melbourne - 01 Jan 1970
We had a fairly standard process of doing an online technical quiz (programming capability) with a video interview. Then we had an assessment day. The assessment day had an individual interview, a group activity and a research / presentation activity; as well as an opportunity to tour the office and ask questions of people.

What questions were you asked in your interviews?
Previous experience in work generally, previous coding experience, where we studied, what we enjoyed about programming, what we were looking for in a company, etc.
Graduate, Melbourne - 01 Jan 1970
There was one or more questions related to what we thought about or an experience related to a Xero value. Some questions about how we have previously dealt with being in a team, receiving feedback and overcoming a challenge. Some questions about previous work / programming experience. They also asked why I picked Xero. There was also a question about analysing some printed off code and trying to pick out problems and explain what we would do to fix them.

Do you have any specific tips and advice for candidates applying to your company? How would you recommend they best prepare?
Ask lots of questions - you're interviewing the company too! Make sure you show passion for your chosen career, whatever that looks like for you.

Xero doesn't generally care all that much about specific tech stacks. What we do care about is how well you will work with others, how well you will work within our culture and that you are someone who is teachable / able to learn. Understanding general programming concepts will be useful too. You will be best prepared by understanding the Xero values and coming with examples of how you worked in team based environments.
