What should I study to get into the WorkCover Queensland graduate recruitment program?

We have two programs with different degrees considered for eligibility:

1. Injury Management Graduate program

Bachelor Degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Exercise and Sports Sciences 
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Psychology
  • Rehabilitation counselling
  • Social work
  • Occupational health and safety

2. Digital Technology and Design Graduate program

Bachelor Degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Information Technology
  • UX design
  • Software design
  • Creative industries
  • Computer science

 

What benefits does this program offer me?

If you are considering the Digital Technology and Design graduate program, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Choose your own path from a menu of options designed to grow your experience and understanding of Development/Testing, Insight/Analytics, Desktop/Networks, Experience design, UX/UI, Communications, Project management and Solutions consulting. 
  • Access a fantastic support network of a manager, buddies, mentors and learning facilitators
  • Create a tailored development plan with the guidance of a learning and development specialist.
  • Develop your technical knowledge, customer and stakeholder engagement skills as well as interpersonal and leadership capabilities, both on-the-job and through formal training.

If you are considering the Injury Management graduate program, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Grow your experience and understanding of return to work, injury management, stakeholder relationships and business engagement projects through three different six-month rotations.
  • Choose your own final rotation to align with your personal/professional career objectives.
  • Access a fantastic support network of a manager, buddies, mentors and learning facilitators.
  • Create a tailored development plan with the guidance of a learning and development specialist.
  • Develop your technical knowledge, customer and stakeholder engagement skills as well as interpersonal and leadership capabilities, both on-the-job and through formal training.

While you won’t be hands-on with patients or clients providing services, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills to the programs and practices that help our injured workers and employers through the claim and return to work journey.  You will also be involved in projects that are improving the way we support our customers.

Is previous work experience or an internship in a similar role required?

No, work experience or vacation employment is not a mandatory requirement. Although, we are interested in finding out about your experience, what your interests are and what you would like to achieve.

Can I apply if I’m not an Australian citizen?

We are only able to offer graduate positions to Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. The Queensland Public Service Act 2008 provides the legislative basis for eligibility to work in the Queensland Government. This means that you need to have your residency status confirmed at the time of application.

What happens at the end of the graduate program?

At the end of the program, your new skills and knowledge of working at WorkCover Queensland means you will be well placed to seek and obtain an ongoing position. Throughout the program, we will help you develop your confidence and skills to obtain further employment opportunities with WorkCover Queensland or to help you pursue your career elsewhere. 

Will I work in the same role for the duration of the program?

No, you’ll have a fantastic opportunity to learn about different areas of WorkCover Queensland with four rotations during your two-year program. The program is focused on promoting skills development while giving you exposure to a wide variety of roles, environments and experiences.

How will my performance be appraised while I am on the program?

Receiving feedback on your performance is extremely important to your ongoing professional development. Each area you are placed with during your rotations will monitor your performance in line with their professional performance and review processes. This means you will work with your manager to write performance targets that are consistent with your own personal goals for growth and development, and the organisation's business direction.

Do you offer internships?

No, we do not offer internships.

How long do I have to wait to hear if I have been successful in getting an interview?

Unfortunately, we can’t put specific dates on when you will hear back from us, but be assured we will update you on your application progress as soon as we can.

How long do I have to wait to hear if I got the job after the assessment and interview?
