Inconsistent and Slow Communication

Came in for an interview with future boss for an internship even though the position was not advertised that year. Still managed to get the internship, I was offered a grad role the year after.

Basic game-like assessment initially followed by some phone conversations with the HR/recruitment people and two conference call interviews as the original interviewer couldn't attend the first.

Did a quick phone interview, followed by an online cognitive quiz, then a face to face interview. After that got offered the job

I enjoyed the interview process, it was easy and not long and tiring

Following my application, I did not get an initial assessment centre. I only received a call and a follow up interview.

Team based challenges

Two interview in the Auckland Office. The first one was with my manager in Christchurch (webex) and the second with two people I would be working with,

Somewhat fast moving

First there was an online assessments which were fun games. I can't recall if there was a phone interview before the face to face interview. I was interviewed by the team manager and the graduate recruitment staff that I had been interacting with during the process.

I had one interview over Skype but still within the AECOM office in Christchurch. Interview felt good and more like asking me if I would be a suitable fit for the office and team I would be working at.

Send in CV online and fill out the boxes with exactly what was on your CV. Receive an email after 2 weeks asking for me to participate in some sort of ranked online puzzle game. After all that then there was the online video interview which is just you answering questions about yourself on a webcam, no other human is involved. After all that then there is the assessment center which is a group interview where they assess you ability to work with strangers to complete engineering related tasks.

It is a pretty long process, which is probably necessary as there are so many applicants

I was hired based on an email recommendation from a lecturer

For me it was an online application, phone interview, group assessment center and final individual interview.

Lengthy, a couple of stages

Why did I choose the specialism I chose, and why did I want to work at AECOM.

Asked some things about Uni, former work experience etc.

Where I would like to be in 5 or so years. What was the most difficult situation I have been in and how did I deal with it. What subjects I particularly enjoyed during my time at University. What jobs I have done over the summer period as part of my practical work hours.

What my past experience was, what I enjoyed doing, what I expected out of the position

I had to complete a "task" (miniature project prelim design)

The skills from the past work experience mainly, my interests (scoping which team I would be best for etc.)

What was your background? Why did you study engineering? What so you know about AECOM?

What makes a good consultant? What was your favourite course at university? Describe a teamwork experience.

Strengths/weaknesses, working as a team, projects/assignment involvement within uni, out of study interests

Pretty standard interview questions e.g. weaknesses, strengths, etc.

Just be yourself and show personality

I honestly prepared very little. Look at AECOMs website to familiarize yourself with the company

Applicants should understand what they would like to be doing at their first job. Don't just take up any odd job thinking it would be best to settle with anything you can get. Take time and understand what expectations and what opportunities will be at each place your applying and make sure to ASK QUESTIONS during the interview process.

Be honest, don't oversell yourself to get a position because you will just raise expectations and disappoint people if you don't meet them. Have a positive attitude and demonstrate your ability to admit to and learn from mistakes rather than covering them up.

Research the company beforehand. Don't act self-interested in the interview. Be prepared to answer the obvious interview questions.

Learn about the company's goals and core values, different projects, clients etc.

Be calm and collected

Know what skills they have, can work offer (and work on) and area's they think they are interested in

Just relax - no reason to stress

Learn about the company projects, what they have to offer and why you think you want to work here.

Come with examples of different responsibilities you have had in terms of projects with teams, yourself and also out of study examples.

Get an internship here if you can. Interns get first dibs on graduate roles. Be honest, professional but humorous.

Be genuine. Know how you best work in a team and think of ways to demonstrate that you're a team player.
