Job Satisfaction at Australian Bureau Of Statistics (ABS)

I still don't understand my role as much as I would like, but there's constantly things to do and a plan set out as to where we are heading.

responsible for quality checks of our data, liaising with key stakeholders both internally and externally, making adjustments and edits based on sound judgement. Also able to work quite independently.

Role is still confusing as there has been little formal training. It feels like I'm making important decisions with little training about what I'm doing.

Not much

I use a combination of bespoke ABS legacy software, SAS and R to produce customized agricultural statistics for clients.

Reading maths papers, adapting theory to problem at hand, programming. Currently lots of time series modelling.

I like that in my role I get to take ownership of my work and that it involves critical thinking and analysis

Data analytics, survey design and processing, staff supervision.

As part of the Graduate program, I am spending my days learning, including attending a post graduate level subject within my department. I am also learning to use SAS.

Solving problems

I work in a social survey area. My team is the pilot survey for the new infrastructure being developed. I have spent a lot of my recent work time developing my knowledge of new systems and designing metadata to facilitate functionality in the transformed environment.
