Career Prospects at BAE Systems

Becoming a team lead for small project groups.

Still not 100% clear. But looks like acceptable.

Promotion is available at the end of the graduate program after that it depends on what opens up.

If you work hard and show interest and commitment and take feedback, my impression is that you can rise in the company, which is attractive to me

From what I can tell, BAE seems to promote from within. People seem to move up and along through the company after 5-10 years.

I think this depends on job prospects, timing and opportunity within the company, and how things line up with their business needs. However it seems there is good opportunity to advance your career.

This one seems highly structured and there are internal vacancies advertised on the intranet.

I essentially have next to no prospect to move or exit the grad program after my 2 years - at first because it is a huge jump, or I would make a regular jump to a barely similar role in another state, or we found out part way through our graduate program that in fact we may not be qualified to leave the program let alone be promoted. Rely on graduates to jump through hoops to create positions we may not know about being new to the working world. From my knowledge there is not much general support or possibilities to move between entry level to middle management and more senior role ranks (unless you are an engineer or move to butt end of Adelaide)

Depends if the person is proactive to go up the ranks.

Like most other organisations, there needs to be a position available for you to move into before you can move up the ranks. Would need to go through formal recruitment process to increase grade.

Opportunities exists, but not often

advancement seems non existent.

BAE Systems provides information on career possibilities and allows you to steer your career in the direction you feel best suits you. This is constructed through the "My Development Platform" or "MyDev" for short. Supervisors and managers are also willing to give advice on following your career aspects through the company.

As more experience is gained, different and more difficult tasks can be undertaken, leading to managerial roles and team leads, resulting in pay rises.

The grad program is structured to develop a wide range of competencies graduates would like to develop. This makes it much easier to move up the ranks of the company after the graduate program is over due to having the required skills for those senior roles.

Having just started it is a little difficult to tell, and in this type of business you are more likely to move laterally to different functions or projects then up the line of command but there are plenty of opportunities.

There is a constant flow of internally advertised jobs. As part of the graduate program through high performance you are able to exit early and join as a higher ranking employee.

Unsure about promotions, but graduates can rotate to different areas within the business. Once finishing the grad program, if you need a change, managers can help with that.

I have little experience in this (having only been here a year) - the company is filled with talent but is also full of opportunities, my understanding is that whilst positions are competed over most people are satisfied with their results.
