Culture at EY Australia

8.2
8.2 rating for Culture, based on 31 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
There is a good mix of experience and skills within the teams, and the teams are dynamic so you're always exposed to new things, there are ample opportunities for socializing, both sanctioned within the firm as well as within engagements teams and rank groups. You build a network and there is always someone that you can ask questions of.

Open floor structure, able to talk to my management team at any time about anything (professionally). Our job relies a lot on cooperation and teamwork so everyone works in harmony, there is socialising e.g. after work drinks
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Jul 2019
Culture in the office is collaborative and supportive. Partners and Managers are very generous with their time There is a big emphasis on coaching Social club is fantastic - it is really good value and colleagues generally want to catch up on a Friday to de-stress after the week
Midlevel, Melbourne - 12 Jul 2019
Social environment, really fun; not hierarchical at all and very easy to form relationships across all levels of the firm.

I have made fast friends with the other people at EY. regardless of age, background etc. it is easy to get along with the majority of people and makes coming to work very enjoyable. Everyone in my team try to communicate as well as possible which makes teamwork a lot easier and while there is a hierarchy, it is easy to develop friendships with those in different ranks to yourself.
Midlevel, Melbourne - 12 Jul 2019
Lots of socializing amongst colleagues. The majority of the staff are young which makes the culture great. There is a hierarchy in place, but you don't feel as if you can't talk to someone more senior than you, everyone is good to work with

In Advisory the culture is quite good. Great camaraderie, everyone is willing to help each other, I feel I can reach out to anyone if required, including Partners. There is a lot of socialising both in and out of work hours which is generally encouraged.

We have a good culture. We have a monthly catch up and drinks. The hierarchy is non-existent and we socialise
Graduate, Melbourne - 08 Jul 2019
The culture is great, both in the office & after hours. They respect and encourage you to speak your mind no matter what your rank is. People work together well and there is good socializing at events outside of work.
Graduate, Sydney - 08 Jul 2019
There is a strong togetherness and sense of community within the firm. This is facilitated through buddy programs and personal counsellor mentoring.
Midlevel, Sydney - 05 Jul 2019
Although there are formal titles to indicate hierarchy, the team are integrated and connect across all levels from Graduate, to Partner. Teamwork and cooperation are crucial to the ways of working within the team.

Really informal and not hierarchical; super social and not people oriented. A lot of leadership and organisational structure changes in advisory are changing the way teams are structured which will be interesting to see.
Midlevel, Canberra - 05 Jul 2019
Very social culture where everyone is included
Graduate, Melbourne - 05 Jul 2019
During work, there's a strong, shared work ethic amongst the team. My team works quite well together in that every single one of us strives to produce the highest quality work. After work, the culture is relaxed and sociable. I think it's a great balance, and I'm very happy with my team culture. It's not as hierarchical as it can be...with the exception of the partner in my team. I can't speak for other teams on this, as I've had minimal interaction with them, but for the most part my own team's culture is excellent.

Very encouraging and friendly, extremely social after hours
Midlevel, Sydney - 04 Jul 2019
Very political my team has a great social network whereby we often spend Friday nights together for dinner/drinks

Hierarchy and culture is a big problem. The company advertises its diversity and inclusion ideals a lot, however, that is merely at the higher level. Within my team specifically, there is barely any diversity, and people who do not fit a certain mold (i.e. a certain culture, gender and background) are disadvantaged and do not get the same opportunities as those who do. Managers and higher rank employees in my team like to pull rank over others, and strongly enforce the hierarchy. For example, managers have said that they shouldn't be directly talking to the graduates on their team, since they believe that managers should only talk to senior consultants, and then senior consultants should talk to the graduates. Managers often manage upwards to please partners, but do not care about the well-being of the people who do the delivery work for them. Managers have yelled at and been disrespectful to lower rank consultants. People in the team have suffered mental health issues because of the work culture.

As mentioned earlier I love the culture and people who I work with
Experienced, Sydney - 04 Jul 2019
Everyone is friendly and willing to help. Significant amount of amount of teamwork to projects. Ample amount of social events within the division that are free.
Midlevel, Sydney - 04 Jul 2019
Team events are rare, and there are minimal opportunities (organized by EY) to meet/socialize with people at the same level but from other competencies/service lines
