Our pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Boronia is GSK's largest manufacturing facility in the Southern Hemisphere exporting to over 30 markets around the world. It is also the fourth-largest sterile facility housing a state-of-the-art Blow-Fill-Seal production line. Blow-Fill-Seal uses innovative technology for advanced antiseptic liquid medicines.

We have three exciting roles in the below Quality functions:

Quality Control (Chemistry)

This role provides the successful candidate a range of experience in a Quality Control laboratory that is a stepping stone to any career in the science field.
You will be responsible for:

  • Testing of finished products including tablets, nebules, and ampoules for release and stability purposes in quality control lab
  • Raw material testing and environment monitoring
  • Preparing investigation reports where required
  • Methods of testing included but not limited to HPLC, UV dissolution titrations, wet chemistry testing, disintegration etc
  • Prepare procedures and protocol

Operational Quality (Systems & Standards)

This role provides the successful candidate a range of experience in an Operational Quality environment that is a stepping stone to any career in the pharmaceutical or food industry quality sectors. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with deviations including performing root cause analysis
  • GEMBA of processes to identify area of improvement to meet GMP requirements
  • Trending of data to identify areas for improvement
  • Generation of Certificates of analysis for markets post batch release
  • Liaising with production for batch documents and information required for investigation purposes.
  • Prepare procedures and protocols

Microbiologist

This role will provide a range of experience in a Microbiology Laboratory. Your responsibilities will include; microbiological sampling, testing and reporting of raw materials in process samples, stability samples, services testing and environmental monitoring.
Other key accountabilities include:

  • To ensure that all testing is done per Lean Sigma principles, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Laboratory Safety Procedures and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • To respond to internal or external auditors on queries relating to microbial testing
  • To contribute to a Continuous Improvement culture in the Micro laboratory by implementing Lean Lab ways of working. (eg standardisation of testing methods, testing materials at point of use, visual lab, improvement lab cycle times, improving communication)

What we are looking for in a candidate:

  • You must be in your penultimate year of a Bachelor Degree in Microbiology or Science
  • An interest in pursuing a career in the pharmaceutical industry is favourable
  • Strong passion and interest in the placement field
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Initiative and an eagerness to learn
  • High attention to detail, rigor and process
  • Excellent project management, to manage and prioritise multiple ongoing projects
  • Ability to quickly build strong internal & external networks
  • Support change and innovation
  • Strategic thinking and problem solving skills

    • Very fast paced environment

    • The role was sometimes too repetitive.

    • The work itself wasn't aligned to my work goals and career aspirations, possibly the job description wasn't accurate when I applied.

    • Complex structures and multiple locations made it hard to service all businesses equally

    • Time management

    • Pay is low, not many opportunities to move/ grow
