Training & Personal Development at Optus

8.3
8.3 rating for Training, based on 23 reviews
Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
There's so many opportunities to learn at Optus. I've mentioned the formal training we receive as graduates, not only in regards to the telecommunications industry but to boost our own personal skills as well. There's also a Learning Fiesta which happens three times each year on campus where internal and external vendors provide face-to-face and video conferenced training on anything from Photoshop to Unconscious Bias to Optus Networks, all for free!

The graduate program offered good training in soft skills that can be applied companywide such as time management, professional writing and public speaking.

We have heaps of training material available for us. I've picked up presentation skills plus influencing skills. I've also grown a lot in my technical knowledge of the Optus network which has been very helpful

There was a lot of training for the Graduates - some of which was unnecessary like "time management". There is a selection of short courses and web courses you can do at your own time and your own leisure, from a suite of options. Optus also pays for licence to websites like Lynda which has a variety of training courses from basic skills to leadership training and everything in between. Optus also provides $3000 per year for external training or courses such as CA and CPA and any other certification which is relevant to your work.

Time management, project management, people management and so on are some of the skills that I have learned through formal training. As a graduate Optus invest a lot of money to grow you.

I've been involved in a few of the graduate training seminars, but for the most part I've been proactive in getting the training I need for my role i.e. setting up 1-1s with colleagues to learn about different platforms like Google Analytics Premium, Omniture, DoubleClick.

Internally put together training has been good. Have been unimpressed with training put together by external providers. That being said, the opportunities are there.

We had training for soft skills such as presentation, writing, influencing, project management as well as an introduction to the technology the company uses for our products. Optus also holds 'Learning Fiestas' which offers free training to all employees for a whole range of soft skills. These are held at least twice a year and you can enrol into whatever classes you want. There are also grants for further education.

Soft skill training as part of the graduate program e.g. time management, conflict management, presentation skills etc. General and specialised technical training relating to mobile networks and big data.

Training programs provided were quite average - all very theoretical and didn't add a whole lot of value in my opinion. No job specific training provided. Things like time management, influencing skills etc. I believe are learnt over time as opposed to a formal training program
