The Rheinmetall Defence Australia Story

Rheinmetall Defence Australia Pty Ltd (RDA) is a subsidiary of Rheinmetall Group, a mobility and security technology group headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany. We are a trusted partner to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and New Zealand Defence Force and we specialise in:

  • Vehicle Systems
  • Electronic Solutions
  • Weapons, Ammunition and Protection

Our ties to the Australian Government date back to more than 40 years ago through the provision of munitions. Today, we are proud to be the largest supplier of military vehicles to the Australian Defence Force.

We are growing our Australian footprint to deliver system solutions and capability in the areas of mobility, lethality, reconnaissance, protection and sustainment during this important time in the life of the nation’s defence industry.

RDA currently has operations in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Upper Hutt, New Zealand and we are currently building our state-of-the-art Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) at Redbank, Queensland. This contemporary and one-of-a-kind facility includes a production hall, test track, firing tunnel, EMC Chamber and training auditorium spread out on 11 hectares alongside the Brisbane River.

Across our sites, we currently have approximately 350 employees and we are looking to rapidly grow our workforce to about 600 employees by 2021.

Our Culture

Our Company’s values of Respect, Trust and Openness help us to create a workplace environment where employees value each other, live up to their promises and communicate openly every day.   We believe in providing employees with interesting work. We also believe in helping employees achieve a better work-life balance and support active health management.

Our Commitment to our Team Members and Community

RDA strives to create a safe working environment where everyone can feel comfortable and supported to bring their unique perspectives and skills to work each day. Our culture fosters equality, fairness, diversity and inclusivity for all employees as we believe it is important to give back to the communities to which we all belong.  We are committed to partnering and supporting our veteran communities by creating On the Job Training (OJT) opportunities for our ADF veterans as part of our Veterans Engagement Program.  Also, to demonstrate our support to employees with commitments to voluntary emergency service activities, jury service, or Australian Defence Force Reserve service, we provide paid leave allowances in addition to employee’s recreational leave entitlements.

We recognise the importance of having a healthy workforce where our employees can comfortably blend personal and professional life. To achieve this culture, we provide a number of attractive employee benefits that our team members can enjoy including gym memberships, discounts & servicing with a variety of car manufactures and health insurance providers, salary sacrificing, novated leases, study leave and corporate travel discounts for personal use.  We also have access to an Employee Assistance Program for work, personal or family problems to support our employees and their immediate families overall wellbeing. As we continue to grow our partnerships with various Australian providers, we will continue to pass on corporate discounts to our employees.

Diversity & Inclusion

Rheinmetall Defence Australia recognises the strength that comes with employee diversity. We are committed to providing an inclusive work environment where each employee is treated fairly and respectfully. Diversity is critical to our ability to work successfully as a team regardless of borders, language or culture. Our workforce includes employees of varying gender, age, race and ethnicity, professional and cultural backgrounds.

Our workforce has become considerably more diverse.  Our workforce reflects a broad spectrum of cultures, social backgrounds and a wide range of skills and talents.  The area of diversity will continue to be strengthened as we seek to grow our workforce further.

Rheinmetall Defence Australia has been nominated as a finalist in the Prime Minister’s Veterans Employment Awards for Veterans Employer of the Year in 2020.  Recognising the unique attributes Veterans can bring, the Company has established a Veterans Employment Program that trains and supports veterans transitioning from the armed forces and seeking future employment in the commercial sector.

RDA is also an endorsed Work180 Employer for Women.  With our industry being predominately male, we have partnered with Work180 to ensure we continue to support and engage the females within our organisation.  This also means we can create and roll out contemporary initiatives and policies, including work-life blends for everyone.
