About You
In order to be successful, you will have or be due to have a degree in Mining Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- You will have completed your degree in 2017 or are due to complete your degree in 2018
- Hold AUS citizenship or PR at the time of applying
- Reside in the Illawarra Region of NSW or be willing to relocate to the region
- Be available to start in February 2019
Location
Illawarra Coal is a long term and leading coking coal supplier which operates two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.
Illawarra Coal operations are located in the southern coalfields of New South Wales, near the city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney.

Pros and cons of working at South32 AU
Pros
Flexibility to choose your own career path, support to follow that direction. A variety of different roles within a graduate program. The people I work with are the best.
Opportunity to work in different areas and enabled to pursue interests aligned to your career goals and personal values.
Flexibility, I enjoyed the people I work with.
Good environment. Most inclusive mine that I've experienced. Employees seem to have a happy home and healthy relationships.
Company values, colleagues, exposure to interesting projects, company direction at an executive level.
Cons
The graduate program continues to grow, towards the beginning of my employment there was little structure, although this is improving.
The lack of diversity in age and cultural background.
It would be good to talk to more people who have just gone through/going through the grad program.
Often work overtime (more like shift work) and don't get paid for it.
Travel for work (long hours), salary is low compared with peers.
