Pros & Cons

  • Flexibility to choose your own career path, support to follow that direction. A variety of different roles within a graduate program. The people I work with are the best.
  • Opportunity to work in different areas and enabled to pursue interests aligned to your career goals and personal values.
  • Flexibility, I enjoyed the people I work with.
  • Good environment. Most inclusive mine that I've experienced. Employees seem to have a happy home and healthy relationships.
  • Company values, colleagues, exposure to interesting projects, company direction at an executive level.
  • The graduate program continues to grow, towards the beginning of my employment there was little structure, although this is improving.
  • The lack of diversity in age and cultural background.
  • It would be good to talk to more people who have just gone through/going through the grad program.
  • Often work overtime (more like shift work) and don't get paid for it.
  • Travel for work (long hours), salary is low compared with peers.

Promotion is not available within the current structure of my particular working group. However, it seems that moving across roles is often considered.

Too many programs to list are run by the company. I have personally worked on improving energy usage to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and been regularly involved with the local community (schools, universities and more).

Office workers do not have a back to back so people tend to take responsibility instead of blaming the "other crew".

Managers are readily accessible. People above "Manager" are also accessible. Specific program to provide a mentor at a vice-president level, and generally people are very supportive of young employees and therefore act as mentors.

Facilities are fantastic in the Perth head office but pretty average on the sites.

I did vacation work, followed by an outgoing interview. I interviewed for a graduate position following this, and had a medical assessment before an offer. The company values are important. Be yourself.

Work Hours
I work more hours than I should do. Company is somewhat flexible in work hours but it depends on the situations. South32 offers flexible work arrangements but it depends on what kind of work you do.
