We are a large Australian corporate law firm. We have more than 560 people, including 116 Partners operating out of our offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. By size, we are one of the ten largest law firms operating in Australia and the 5th largest independent Australian law firm.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our work, and our transparency. We are driven by our clients' needs.
The nature of our legal assignments is what you would expect of a large corporate law firm. Thomson Geer is regularly engaged in challenging and complex work. Our lawyers are given exposure to excellent work while maintaining small teams where each lawyer gets to develop and learn from senior lawyers, including partners.
We work closely with and are retained regularly by ASX Top 200 corporations, ASX Listed corporations, large and medium private corporations and Government enterprises. We provide regular representation to the Australian interests of major global foreign corporations. Their industry coverage includes banking and finance, construction, private equity, property development, oil & gas, telecommunications, aviation, agricultural investment, healthcare, life sciences, mining and transport & logistics.
We run summer clerkships and graduate programs in all of our offices. These are designed to ensure that you quickly become a part of our team when you arrive, getting involved in high-quality work and working closely with your experienced colleagues, including partners, to learn and develop your skills in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Our clerks are curious, hungry to learn and committed to constant innovation and improvement.
We are looking for hard-working and motivated law students who have excelled academically, are customer focused, commercially minded, work well in a team environment and are enthusiastic about growing their career with a dynamic law firm. We are especially keen to talk to students who have an additional technical degree.
We know you're not just a student on work experience. We want to give you a realistic, stretching introduction to the legal profession. How does this happen? From day one, you’ll be an active member of the team, involved in all aspects of legal practice, and working directly with experienced practitioners. We also want you to enjoy your time with us – there are lots of social events you can get involved in – and what better way for you to get to know your colleagues?
We will dedicate time to your development as an up-and-coming lawyer in our team: an investment in you is an investment in our future and the future of our valued clients.
Our partners and staff are approachable and happy to share their knowledge and experience with you. We encourage our clerks and graduates to get as much exposure to different practice areas and ways of working as they can – this is a reflection of how we work as a wider organisation; a fully integrated, cohesive, national team.
