About this course

Students who achieve excellent academic performance in their accounting studies will be eligible to join the Honours year.The program extends undergraduate studies in financial accounting, management accounting, auditing and taxation. Students undertake advanced coursework and a research thesis. Classes are conducted in a seminar setting. Students will have the opportunity to interact with research active academic staff, engage in the analysis of advanced accounting issues, and develop critical thinking skills.Students aspiring to the Honours program should consult the Honours Convenor in the Research School of Accounting and Business Information Systems for advice. Students from other universities can also apply for entry.

Entry requirements

An AQF Level 7 Bachelor Degree, or international equivalent, completed within the last two years:

  • that satisfies the requirements for the completion of an ANU accounting major or equivalent university study, and
  • with a weighted average mark equivalent to an ANU 70 per cent calculated from the 36 units (i.e. 0.75 EFTSL) of courses eligible for inclusion in an ANU accounting major or equivalent, excluding 1000-level courses (i.e. introductory undergraduate courses), with the highest marks.
  • and with the written approval of the Honours Convener.

The number of places available in the program may be limited by the Dean due to supervisory capacity, and admission to Honours is with the written approval of the Honours Convener.

Adjustment Factors

ANU offers rank adjustments for a number of adjustment factors, including for high achievement in nationally strategic senior secondary subjects and for recognition of difficult circumstances that students face in their studies. Rank adjustments are applied to Bachelor degree applicants with an ATAR at or above 70. Points are awarded in accordance with the approved schedules, and no more than 15 points (maximum 5 subject/performance-based adjustments, maximum 10 equity-based adjustments and maximum 5 Elite Athlete adjustments) will be awarded. Subject and performance-based adjustments do not apply to programs with a minimum selection rank of 98 or higher. Visit the ANU Adjustment Factors website for further information.
