Domestic applicants

• complete an approved tertiary preparation course/program without undertaking any further study,

will be assessed on the basis of an equivalent selection rank that is calculated upon application. Non school leavers must also meet any program specific requirements that are listed below.

International applicants

Applicants who complete a recognised secondary/senior secondary/post-secondary/tertiary sequence of study will be assessed on the basis of an equivalent selection rank that is calculated upon application. ANU offers rank adjustments for a number of adjustment factors, including for high achievement in nationally strategic senior secondary subjects and for recognition of difficult circumstances that students face in their studies. Rank adjustments are applied to Bachelor degree applicants with an ATAR at or above 70. Points are awarded in accordance with the approved schedules, and no more than 15 points (maximum 5 subject/performance-based adjustments, maximum 10 equity-based adjustments and maximum 5 Elite Athlete adjustments) will be awarded. To be admitted to the Master of Philosophy program you will be required to have completed at least a three-year Australian degree or equivalent with a result of 70% or above.

An AQF Level 7 Bachelor Public Policy degree or equivalent, completed within the last two years: 

1.    with a weighted average mark equivalent to an ANU 70  per cent calculated from the 36 units (i.e. 0.75 EFTSL) of courses from the Bachelor of Public Policy requirements listed as compulsory, excluding 1000-level courses (i.e. introductory undergraduate courses), with the highest marks.2.    with the written approval of an identified supervisor for THES4103 Thesis.

Admission requirements

A successfully completed Evidence-Based Management EdX MicroMasters, achieving at least 70% in the final capstone exam.

Applicants without a completed Bachelor's degree (with minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0) or ANU Graduate Certificate of Management (with minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0) or successfully completed Evidence-Based Management EdX MicroMasters (with at least 70% in the final capstone exam), can be considered for admission using a minimum GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) score of 550 or higher plus at least 3 years full-time work experience.

The minimum academic requirement for full entry and enrolment is a Bachelor degree or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0. 

However, applicants will first be ranked on a GPA ('GPA1') that is calculated using all but the last semester (or equivalent) of the Bachelor degree used for admission purposes. 

If required, ranking may further be confirmed on the basis of: 

• a GPA ('GPA2') calculated on the penultimate and antepenultimate semesters (or equivalent) of the Bachelor degree used for admission purposes; and/or

• demonstrating higher-level English language proficiency. 

Prior to enrolment in this ANU program, all students who gain entry will have their Bachelor degree reassessed, to confirm minimum requirements were met.

All qualifications submitted for admission at ANU will be converted to this common scale, which will determine if an applicant meets our published admission requirements. Progression requirements apply:

Students must have the written agreement of an identified supervisor in order to enrol in THES8105 Thesis in a specified semester one calendar year in advance of the start date of that semester.

Students who do not have the written agreement of an identified supervisor one calendar year in advance, or whose agreed supervisor either subsequently leaves the university or is on leave from the university, will be transferred to the Master of Visual Arts.

Applications for course credit

Applicants with a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Certificate in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 24 units (one semester) of credit.

Applicants with a Graduate Diploma or Honours in a cognate discipline may be eligible for 48 units (one year) of credit.

The Graduate Diploma of Studies is an exit Award only and is not available for direct admission.
