Pros & Cons

  • It's flexible, people are nice and helpful and plenty of growth opportunities.
  • Great support network and development.
  • Company culture - most people are friendly, willing to help, easy to chat to. Career progression - large international organization with lots of departments, opportunity for career progression and even career diversification within the company Perks - depending on the team you're in, you can work from home when needed and again depending on the role, you may not need to dress strictly corporate (i.e. suit and tie or high heels)
  • Easy going, interesting work, ability to do multiple rotations and see lots of different teams, flexible working
  • The people and the culture
  • Clarity regarding graduate program structure.
  • Being a large enterprise organization, there are constant restructures every 1-2 years and the risk of redundancy is quite high. Being a large company also means several cumbersome processes and systems and old, inefficient, ineffective ways of performing certain tasks.
  • Could be more training as a graduate before starting in your team- broad training such as credit writing

I think to be promoted you really have to be good at what you do, show an interest in learning and also have a good work ethic and 'can-do' attitude. Traits like this will be recognized and can set you up for success.

ANZ tries to be as green as possible - encouraging us to use less plastic, have keepcups etc

Active effort in continuing to develop culture, professional, with focus on teamwork. Some socializing, depending on team.

Diversity
There is definitely diversity all over ANZ and no one discriminates. They take such things seriously. In terms of diversity in leadership management - I do think that can be further improved. Can't comment on childcare or maternity leave much as I've not experienced it myself but I do hear good things about it from others. I believe ANZ offers programs for those of less privileged backgrounds to learn about the bank. Not too sure about this space...

Satisfaction
A lot of cumbersome and slow processes and ways of doing things, bogged down by unnecessary meetings, work given to me oscillates between being too simple and easy, and being so difficult and above my current competencies, no consistency, which makes sticking to a development plan tricky.

Location and facilities are good Dress code is 'dress for your day' which is enforced differently across different teams. However generally it is encouraged to dress casually yet still professionally unless you have client meetings (for girls there is no expectation to wear heels every day).

Phone interview and assessment centre. Relatively timely and efficient. Standard behavioural questions, with some commentary re. academics. Consider own value-add and why you want to work in the organization.

Given the environment the bank is in, you can expect the bonus to be a lot smaller. However the pay is fine - can't complain really. I do think you get paid more as you progress in your career. I guess you get to go to events sponsored by the company like the Australian Open.

I work 9-5. Company is very flexible with my hours, several times I have either finished early or started late to attend medical appointments and so long as I make up the time on another day and get all my work done, no one bats an eyelid
