With the addition of secondments, you seem to be able to gain experience in any facet of the business, and as far as I can tell, experience (and a good attitude) is the only thing that you require to move anywhere. BHP seem to go to great lengths to retain their people.

On site when working 12 hour days with the same people you get to know each other and get along well. The culture is very accommodating and friendly, many of the senior personnel were grads here also, so they understand and can empathize with our situation. Various team days are organized to suit a range of interests. People are extremely approachable and go out of their way to help.

Strong commitment to inclusion and diversity, with a council formed and publications sent through to all people on site. In some areas, women are being promoted to leadership roles, but some area still show a lack of change. Offer scholarships and intern/graduate opportunities.

Graduate Geologist, stepped up into mine geology role after 5months (no other geo's on site when I work). I conduct pit inspections, create surfaces for drill and blast, remodel faults, reconcile coal recoveries, map highwalls and log testpits, Create large and small reports based on geological integration from across fields. I would say our main focus is to protect the coal and maximise the recovery amount, based on the data we provide to geotechs, mine planning engineers and operations/production on site.

They are accessible, approachable, open to mentoring opportunities and provide regular feedback, praise/recognition and constructive criticism.

BHP's Perth City Square office is very modern and deluxe, the view from level 45 is breathtaking.

Online assessments, phone interview, assessment centre. Questions on BHP charter values, questions on safety and culture examples. Make sure they have a strong example of themselves being willing to speak up about unsafe behavior.

Very generous base salary compared to other companies. My big grievance is that functional roles (eg. HSE) receive significantly smaller site allowance that operations. Notional bonus target of 10% of base salary is good. Free graduate accommodation and bills. Free gym membership at local town.

Good training but the systems are very confusing.

BHP offers flexible working arrangement so they are quite flexible. However, I don't work in the office, I work on site. They are somewhat flexible with the times we start/finish, however this needs to work for our stakeholders and operations also.

There is importance on reducing waste however this is opportunity for improvement.
