There is a clear structure for promotion through the levels within each team and the wider business. These are tracked in meetings with your line manager (these can be as frequent or infrequent as you and your manager like) and are made quite clear and accessible.

The company supports socially responsible companies/ organisations such as Engineers Without Borders, Power of Engineering, and has fundraising events throughout the year. It could improve by actively encouraging staff to participate in not-for-profit companies working with disadvantaged communities or working with cubbies with a strong focus on socially disadvantaged groups.

Our Resources and Manufacturing unit is very friendly and we will often hang out at the office during breaks or outside of work to catch up. Our unit is also multi-disciplined, meaning I am not only friends with other structural engineers but also mechanical and electrical engineers.

Good mix of minorities overall. As a woman, I have only ever been treated with respect, and have never been talked down to. There are women within my team with leadership positions while working part-time to stay home with children. My line manager is openly LGBTI+.

I am given responsibilities to work on all sorts of projects of different shapes and sizes, and often given deliverables that I am personally responsible for.

The office has pretty much anything you need, including showers and storage spaces. It is located close to shops, transport, and places to eat.

I was working under the supervision of one team member who seemed to take a liking to my work, then asked if I would like to work at Aurecon. I then had a coffee catch-up with the team leader with the expectation that if that went well, I would have a more formal interview. I remained under that impression until I received a phone call asking when I could start.

Pay seems to be equitable and the review process is very clear, with goal setting for each financial year to map progress.

I am quite satisfied with our training programmes at my company. We have a training portal available to all employees where we can choose to undertake further training in the areas that interest us.

Work is standard 38 hours a week. As long as the work is done, the time can be balanced. I like it very much. Let’s me be productive, at the same time spending time with my family.

There is still paper involved, but as an engineering firm, there are still times where the paper is much more preferable to electronic. My company’s real efforts are in the work we produce where environmental concerns are considered across the vast majority of our projects.
