Offers of admission to Master of Arts – Arts Administration [IU]/Master of Museum and Heritage Studies [ANU] may be conditional upon admission to the corresponding program at Indiana University. At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and English language requirements. Admission to most ANU programs is on a competitive basis. Therefore, meeting all admission requirements does not automatically guarantee entry. 

Applicants must present a Bachelor degree or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 6.0/7.0, and the approval of an identified supervisor for the research project/thesis.

Students must have the written agreement of an identified supervisor in order to enrol in THES8103 Thesis in a specified semester one calendar year in advance of the start date of that semester. Students who do not have the written agreement of an identified supervisor one calendar year in advance, or whose agreed supervisor either subsequently leaves the university or is on leave from the university, will be transferred to the Master of Archaeological and Evolutionary Science.

Applications for course credit

Applicants with a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Certificate in a cognate discipline may be eligible for up to 24 units (one semester) of credit.

Applicants with a Graduate Diploma or Bachelor degree with Honours in a cognate discipline may be eligible for up to 48 units (one year) of credit. 

To be eligible for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy program you should have completed a relevant four-year undergraduate degree from an eligible university, or a postgraduate qualification with a significant research thesis component. There must be a supervisor at the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science who is available and willing to supervise your research, and you must have identified a research project.

Admission to a Doctor of Philosophy degree at ANU requires:

1. An Australian Bachelor degree with at least Second Class Honours - Upper (First Class Honours is often required) or its international equivalent, or

2. Another degree with a significant research/thesis component that may be assessed as equivalent to paragraph (1), or

3. A combination of qualifications, research publications and/or professional experience related to the field of study that may be assessed as equivalent to paragraph (1).

All applicants must meet the University’s English Language Admission Requirements for Students.

Admission to the Diploma of Science is based on meeting the ATAR or an equivalent rank derived from:

Additional requirements

Admission to the Bachelor of Health Science also requires a successful assessment of suitability based on responses included in the Bachelor of Health Science Supplementary Form. The form must be submitted by 31st May for domestic students that are applying direct to the ANU and November 30th in the year of application for UAC applications. International applicants need to submit this form by the 30th November in the year of application. Submission of this form is compulsory for all applicants.

There are 60 places available in each intake of the Bachelor of Health Science.

Of the 60 places available in the Bachelor of Health Science, 15 places are reserved for applicants from a rural background. Applicants from a rural background are asked to indicate this in their supplementary form and are required to submit supporting documentation with their application. 

Places are also available in the Bachelor of Health Science for applicants who are of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. Applicants are asked to indicate this in their supplementary form and are required to submit supporting documentation with their application. 

Supporting documentation must also be submitted by 31st May for direct applications submitted to ANU and November 30th in the year of application for UAC applications.

Entry requirements

Domestic School-leavers

Domestic students completing an Australian Year 12 or the IB program (November session) in Australia in 2019 apply directly to The Australian National University by submitting an Admission, Scholarships and Accomodation application here. All students will still need to meet the published entry requirements for the program they have applied for.

In addition to meeting the published entry requirements, school leavers are required met the co-curricular or service requirement (CCS). The CCS functions as a threshold that is either met or not met, you can learn more about the CCS and check if you’ve met the CCS requirement here.

Domestic Non school-leavers

Domestic non-school leavers (including students transferring to ANU, mature age applicants and students who are otherwise not a school-leaver) can apply to ANU via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

The Master of Studies is an exit award only.

 To use the Master of Studies as an exit a student must:

• have completed 96 units of 6000-level, 7000-level, and 8000-level courses towards an ANU Master or Master Advanced program, of which
•  a maximum of 36 units must be from courses from the graduate classification: Transitional,
•  a minimum of 36 units must be from completion of courses from the following graduate classifications:
  • Advanced
  • Specialist, and
•  a minimum of 12 units must be from courses from the graduate classification: Research;
•  and must successfully apply to transfer those 96 units into the Master of Studies.
