ANU offers rank adjustments for a number of adjustment factors, including for high achievement in nationally strategic senior secondary subjects and for recognition of difficult circumstances that students face in their studies. Rank adjustments are applied to Bachelor degree applicants with an ATAR at or above 70. Points are awarded in accordance with the approved schedules, and no more than 15 points (maximum 5 subject/performance-based adjustments, maximum 10 equity-based adjustments and maximum 5 Elite Athlete adjustments) will be awarded. In line with the university's admissions policy and strategic plan, an assessment for admission may include competitively ranking applicants on the basis of specific academic achievement, English language proficiency and diversity factors.

Admission requirements

At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and English language requirements. Admission to most ANU programs is on a competitive basis. Therefore, meeting all admission requirements does not automatically guarantee entry. 

Applicants must present a Bachelor degree or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0, with at least one course in the field of mathematics that must cover calculus and linear algebra.

Or an ANU Graduate Certificate of Finance and Actuarial Statistics (Actuarial Statistics or Actuarial Studies specialisation) with a minimum GPA of 4.5/7.0, with at least one course in the field of mathematics from university studies that must cover calculus and linear algebra.

Students must achieve a minimum 60% weighted average mark in the first 48 units of courses attempted in order to remain enrolled in the Master of Actuarial Practice. Students who do not achieve a minimum of 60% weighted average mark in the first 48 units will be transferred to the Graduate Diploma in Business. If the total number of units attempted exceeds 48 in the same teaching period in which the 48th unit is attempted, exactly 48 units will be used in the calculation of the weighted average mark with units from the course with the highest mark applied first followed by further units from courses in descending order of marks.

However, applicants will first be ranked on a GPA ('GPA1') that is calculated using all but the last semester (or equivalent) of the Bachelor degree used for admission purposes. 

If required, ranking may further be confirmed on the basis of: 

• a GPA ('GPA2') calculated on the penultimate and antepenultimate semesters (or equivalent) of the Bachelor degree used for admission purposes; and/or

• demonstrating higher-level English language proficiency. 

Prior to enrolment in this ANU program, all students who gain entry will have their Bachelor degree reassessed, to confirm minimum requirements were met.

Unless otherwise indicated, where an applicant has more than one completed tertiary qualification, ANU will calculate the GPA for each qualification separately. ANU will base assessment on the best GPA of all completed tertiary qualifications of the same level or higher.

Applicants without a completed Bachelor's degree (with minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0) or ANU Graduate Certificate of Management (with minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0) or successfully completed Evidence-Based Management EdX MicroMasters (with at least 70% in the final capstone exam), can be considered for admission using a minimum GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) score of 550 or higher plus at least 3 years full-time work experience.

To be admitted to the Doctor of Philosophy program you are required to have completed a relevant degree with H1 (first class) Honours (or equivalent). Students with upper 2nd class honours (H2A) may be eligible for admission and are encouraged to apply. Applicants seeking to apply for a scholarship must have achieved the minimum result of an H1 Honours (or equivalent) to be considered.

All applicants must meet the University’s English Language Admission Requirements for Students.

A Bachelor of Asian Studies degree or equivalent, completed within the last two years:

1. with a weighted average mark equivalent to an ANU 70 per cent in relevant courses in their Bachelor Pass Degree (i.e., courses that are relevant to their proposed honours thesis), excluding 1000-level courses (i.e. introductory undergraduate courses).
2. With a minimum of 24 units of sequential language study or equivalent proficiency in an Asian language OR a 48 unit major or equivalent in Pacific Studies
3. with a 24 unit minor or equivalent in a cognate discipline.
4. with the written approval of an identified supervisor and the CAP Honours Program Convenor for the thesis.

Admission to this Master of Philosophy program is normally granted to applicants holding a Bachelor degree, with an overall grade of distinction or higher, from an Australian University. Admission can be granted to applicants who demonstrate a background equivalent to these qualifications.
