In the first couple of years at Treasury, pretty much everyone gets promoted at the same levels (unless they're very poor performers). It is only after that that more separation between the cohorts occurs. But it seems quite a fair, transparent process.

The culture is open and welcoming in office hours. There are many sports teams and external activities taking place, though there could be more opportunities to socialise.

One of the programs that Treasury offers is an Indigenous Cadetship Programme, as part of Treasury's Indigenous Employment Strategy.

I work on policy analysis with considerable responsibility for the policies assigned to me, which range from high-profile to smaller items.

The managers that I have had are very accessible - door is always open. They have provided timely and considered feedback.

Dress code is formal suit and tie for males. The office is average.

There is written application and panel interview. The process is not overly difficult, but it is very competitive. Try to show your personality in the written application, not just where you've studied and worked. If you have an interview choose topics that are outside the box and forward looking.

Pay is good starting off as a graduate and the progression at pay points is also good. We do not get bonuses. Lifestyle bonus to help support a healthy lifestyle.

There's a week long induction program for grads, and then scattered throughout the year, there are training sessions on soft skills as well as technical skills depending on where you work. There's also some unique things like getting to work on the Budget and helping out at Parliament House on Budget Day.

Treasury has a standard working week of 38 hours - Any time worked in addition to this accrues as flex time. Standard hours can also be completed between a bandwidth of 7am-7pm.
